Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead (hell).
On the third day he rose again;
He ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
I believe in Jesus Christ Holy Church,
the holy communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for saving a sinner like me. Amen

The Holy Bible, New International Version. Pradis
Pr 22:14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit; he who is under the LORD'S wrath will fall into it.
Pr 22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.
Pr 22:16 He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and he who gives gifts to the rich—both come to poverty.
Sayings of the Wise
Pr 22:17 Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach,
Pr 22:18 for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all of them ready on your lips.
Pr 22:19 So that your trust may be in the LORD, I teach you today, even you.
Pr 22:20 Have I not written thirty sayings for you, sayings of counsel and knowledge,
Pr 22:21 teaching you true and reliable words, so that you can give sound answers to him who sent you?

MARK 9.2-9
Mark 9.2-9 Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Then Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, "This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!" Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them anymore, but only Jesus. As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. To be transfigured, Jesus met with Moses and Elijah. We are tempted to make Idols and Monuments, but he tells us to hold it in our hearts. Rev. Sylvia Bell

7 Verses dealing with matters that have become common in the study – rich, poor, money lenders, generosity, discipline, mocker, contention, purity and laziness with a slightly different twist.
Verse 22.8: ___ Sow…reap is a familiar pairing in scripture, especially for proverbial sayings. In this case, sowing the seed and then harvesting or reaping the grain is the foundational fact makes sowing wickedness and harvesting trouble identifiable to the farmers and migrant workers who heard this. The result? His ability to harm others will fail.
Verse 22.9: BC days, generosity was in short supply. Growing conditions were often poor, and poverty very nearly became a cottage industry. Beggars were as plentiful as locust. Have you ever been in a Third World country and brought a pack of Chiclets from a young salesman, only to have every little candy and gum seller in town sweep down upon you? Generosity can get you in trouble!
The king is urging generosity and telling his hearers that they shall be blessed if they follow this example. Generosity is described here as a “bountiful eye,” which implies that mature people (those who should be generous) look for opportunities to share their bread with the poor. The promise? The Lord will bless.
Verse 22.10: ___ If written today, the teacher or preacher would probably say, “Tired of griping and complaining? Then clean house! Do one of two things: convert your mocking scorner or get him out. Sound drastic? The morale of any group can be totally shattered by mumblings from one malcontent. It seems Solomon doesn’t practice “three strikes and your out theory of discipline, it seems important to provide an opportunity for your agitator to get straightened out. If he will not then, to quote Solomon, “Cast him out!”
Verse 22.13: ___ The lazy sloth gets his just dues again. This time he attempts to excuse himself from work by reporting there is a lion outside, so he has no way to go working without risking life and limb. This excuse is so outlandish, the king himself must have had a smile on his face when he quoted it.
Many of us need to remind ourselves almost daily that maturity is the ability to see a job through, regardless of mood or the possibility of more interesting endeavors.
Take Inventory: Which of the above: the sower of wickedness, the practitioner of generosity, the malcontent, and the lazy excuse maker, do you rub shoulders with on a daily basis. One of the four is a positive influence. What is your technique for handling the other three?
To Memorize: “The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.” Proverbs 22.1
